How can I get involved?

We’re so glad you found us!

How to learn about events:

You can explore past events on this website and get sneak peaks into the general plans coming up. Events are promoted by invitation and word-of-mouth (read why here), usually through the Storyboard newsletter, which goes out once a month or less. You can also follow along on our Instagram account for general updates and post-event content!

Prepare to participate:

Storyboard shenanigans prioritize developing community and engaging with beauty, not providing “an experience”. They are humble and homemade, based on contributions from among our own community. You might see an open call to bring something to sing, tell, or show at one of our meetups, or an ask for volunteers to host an activity table (such as at the Narnia festival), or a small event entirely built around reading our own written works. There is always space to be a little quiet and stay on the fringes, but you’ll get so much more out of these gatherings if you come ready to participate, willing to be friendly and embrace a little awkwardness, and open to giving and receiving hospitality.

“Hospitality allows both guest and host to come as we are, in our everyday boring, beautiful, human selves; it asks us to welcome one another in a specific place, day, and state of mind; and it gently invites us to receive nourishment for our bodies and our souls.” — “I’m not good at cooking”

The world today is full of low-effort hot takes and emotionally charged sarcasm, so we kindly ask that you read this Substack blog post about protecting our time together from political discussion and controversial commentary. Our focused creative time needs to be intentionally guarded so that we have space to open up with one another about our work, in all its vulnerability and imperfection.

“Our focus is on the Kingdom-building work of practical spirituality; things like singing songs, tending to gardens, making pastries, carving linocut blocks, painting on canvases, welcoming strangers, and seeing God’s hand at work in the everyday beauty of life in the world He created.” —“No politics allowed”
